Building Our Community
The Foundation administers Whitetooth Ski Society & Columbia Basin Trust programs
Raising money is key, but supporting the right projects is even more important. The Golden & District Community Foundation has worked with other grant making groups, providing their local expertise to help ensure hard earned funds are spent wisely. When looking for local guidance, the Whitetooth Ski Society and Town of Golden used the Foundation to help administer their funds in very different ways.
In 2007, the Whitetooth Ski Society dissolved and wanted to turn their funds back over to the community. The GDCF was able to manage and administer the funds in perpetuity, following the Society’s vision to provide the opportunity for under privileged youth to ski and snowboard. Heading into the 3rd year with the Foundation, the Golden Community Resource Society (GCRS) has joined the Whitetooth Affordable Ski Program.
Since 2005, the Town of Golden has relied upon the guidance of the Foundation to administer the Columbia Basin Trust’s Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Program. Since 1998, funds from these two programs provide critical capital to projects in Golden and Electoral Area A. In 2009, with guidance from the GDCF, political representatives from Town Council and the Regional District, and volunteer citizens at large, over $286,000 was granted to twenty-one projects in our community.
The GDCF provides advice, accountability and project management support to both their clients and each grant recipient.
