Mike McKnight Award
This award is available annually to a Golden resident with a history of community involvement that is entering or continuing education or training in the ski industry (guiding, ski patrol, ski/board instructor, ski area management, or search and rescue). The community involvement piece is significant to your application β go volunteer!
Note from his family:
Mike was a big man, big in that he was a brilliant mind, a selfless community activist, a smart and hard worker and a tireless contributor to the organizations he was a part of. Mike was a Park Warden for most of his career and was involved in many large projects, from highway construction to ski area development in Banff and Glacier Parks. Mike was a builder in every sense of the word, equally adept with a chainsaw, heavy equipment, or groups of people. He was a natural leader that everyone trusted. Mike was a brilliant man with a vision of what was possible if a few good people worked hard and put their heads together. We never heard him boast about his accomplishments, but we often heard him praise the contributions made by others. He loved his family, building things, and deep snow skiing. His life touched us all; he was our unsung hero.
